Free tool
Free Irish invoice generator
Fill in the form, press Download, and you have a PDF invoice with the details Irish VAT law asks for. No sign-up, and nothing you type is kept.
What goes on the invoice
- Your name, address and VAT number (when you are registered)
- The invoice date and your invoice number
- Your customer’s name and address, and their VAT number when you give it
- A description, quantity and unit price for each line
- The net amount at each VAT rate, the VAT at each rate, and the total
- “VAT reverse charged” wording on reverse-charge lines
- Your IBAN, with the invoice number as the payment reference
Up to 50 lines per invoice, in euro. For the full list of what Revenue expects, read what an Irish VAT invoice must include.
What it does not do
A generator makes one document and forgets it. It will not remember your last invoice number, keep a copy for the six years Revenue expects, chase a late payer or take a card payment.
An Invoicer account does those things: invoices numbered for you, sent by email, paid by card or SEPA Direct Debit into your own Stripe account, and kept on file. The Free plan costs nothing.
Questions
- Is the invoice generator really free?
- Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many invoices you make. It is free because some people who use it later want an account to keep their invoices, email them and get paid online.
- Do you keep the details I type in?
- No. The form stays in your browser until you press Download. The details are then sent to our server once, turned into a PDF and sent straight back. Nothing is saved to a database or a file.
- Will the invoice be accepted by Revenue?
- If you fill it in correctly, it carries the particulars Irish VAT law asks for: your name, address and VAT number, the date, a sequential number, the customer's name and address, a description of what you supplied, the net amount and VAT at each rate, and the total. You are still responsible for the numbers and the VAT treatment you choose.
- What if I am not registered for VAT?
- Untick "I am registered for VAT". The invoice then charges no VAT and says that you are not registered. Do not charge VAT unless you are registered for it.
- Can I make an e-invoice for Peppol here?
- No, this tool makes a PDF. An Invoicer account produces an EN 16931 UBL e-invoice file alongside the PDF for every invoice, which is the structured format Ireland's e-invoicing mandate is built on.
This tool helps you lay out an invoice. It is not tax advice: if you are unsure which VAT rate or treatment applies, ask your accountant or check revenue.ie.
